Apple has officially announced a major leadership transition, confirming that CEO Tim Cook will step down from his role on September 1, 2026, after leading the company for nearly 15 years.
Cook, who took over from Steve Jobs in 2011, will transition into the role of Executive Chairman, where he will continue to support the company, particularly in global policy and strategic matters.
Stepping into the top position will be John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering and a long-time company veteran. Ternus, who has been with Apple for over two decades, has played a key role in shaping many of the company’s flagship products, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The transition, approved unanimously by Apple’s board, is part of a long-term succession plan aimed at ensuring continuity in leadership.
Tim Cook’s tenure marked a period of massive growth for Apple, during which the company expanded its product ecosystem and achieved record-breaking market value. However, the leadership change comes at a time when Apple faces increasing pressure to accelerate innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
With Ternus at the helm, Apple is expected to continue its hardware-driven strategy while navigating new challenges in the evolving tech landscape. The upcoming transition signals both continuity and a fresh direction for one of the world’s most influential companies.
